Hi, I’m The Busy Gentleman!

Welcome to my blog of food, drink, travel, investment and friends and family – or my new set of priorities in life. Like so many people in the world, especially those here in the United States, I thought these were my priorities all along. The reality is that for many of us, we put our job/profession first, competing with or in connection with money, and depending on who you are and where you run, your status within society. Following well behind are all the things that truly make us happy. Why is that?

Now, don’t get me wrong, jobs and income are hugely important, status can provide some nice perks, and the only one who says otherwise inherited a ton of money – a dream for lots of us, but pretty rare in real life and a certainty in my life. My point is we should all stop and think about that balance. Am I missing out on the relationship with my spouse, my children, and my friends by working those 5, 10, 15 hours additional per week? Are the things that bind me with my family and friends – food, drink, travel, etc – getting squeezed in as a supporting role, instead of a starring role? If my balance is out of whack, how can I invest my time and money to maximize the possibility I can get closer to the balance I want?

This blog is all about trying to share my recipes, my journey, and the tools I try to use to seek that balance. I spent more than 20 years in a successful investment management career, proceeded by another five or so years exploring other avenues in the corporate and educational space. My past success by no means translates into my being free from the economic and social needs of work but has given me some flexibility at finding some of the balance I was clearly missing. I hope some of the insights I am able to share with you about my journey is interesting and helpful to you, just as I hope that you find some of the dishes you find here interesting and tasty!

PS – I am doing this solo and am training myself on WordPress et al as I go, so I apologize in advance for any technical bugs. We’ll get ’em ironed out eventually.

My Mission

Yes, I know there are scores upon scores of food blogs. Yes, I know that many are moving increasingly towards video. I might get there. But at this early stage, my mission is to share interesting recipes that can be made easily at home, with ingredients you can find at your well-stocked grocery store (with the occasional exotic ingredient, but I will endeavor to give you alternatives). And as much as I appreciate some of the blogs out there, some of them just go on and on and take forever to get to the recipe that brought you to their site. I won’t promise not to be verbose, but I will endeavor to do so after the good stuff.

My Vision

Every recipe you find on this site is one that I have personally done with only set of normal tools and a culinary education of more cookbooks than I have space for, some great restaurant experiences, and a strong desire to eat well, and mostly healthy. Every insight I share is solely my attempt to engage with you and get you to join me in my excitement for the things I think should be priorities in life.

I hope that if you like what you see here, have ideas on how to improve things or take things in a new direction that you will share your views. Differences in opinion and constructive criticisms are always welcome! I look forward to hearing how you manage to find balance as busy gentlepeople!
